Dear Judge Allan Klein;
My experience as a lifetime
agricultural economist for the University of
Minnesota and the U.S.
Department of Agriculture convinces me that we do no one,
including farmers, an
economic service by not requiring environmentally sound
practices for agriculture. We
should insist on high standards for healthy food
and clear water. In the long
run this will improve the economic viability of the
Minnesota and U.S. food
system.
In view of this the proposed
revisions of the 7020 rules for feedlots,
the
following are some of my/our
objections. They provide;
-Inadequate protection of the
environment (air and water).
-Inadequate consideration of
input from the communmity.
-Inadequate opportunity for
public comment by the community prior to building
large feedlots.
-Inadequate requirements of
prospective feedlot owners, large and small, to
publish plans prior to buying
and building feedlots.
